SOUTH DAKOTA Codified Laws § 44-9-50 mandates that a A Notice Of Project Commencement announces by the General Contractor that work is starting for the the improvement of a property. This notice provides interested parties in the construction project with legal party information needed to follow the construction lien procedures properly. A copy of the Notice Of Project Commencement should be posted at a conspicuous place at the job site, and sent by mail to any Subcontractors on the project who request in writing a copy of it.

Lien Statement By Lien Claimant

South Dakota Codified Laws § 44-9-16 mandates that
a Lien Statement By Lien Claimant (Mechanic's Lien) must be recorded no
later than 120 days after the last day that labor, skills, services or
machinery are furnished for a project. It is recorded at the County Register
of Deeds Office in the county where a project you provided labor, skills,
services or machinery are furnished for a project. You then have six years
to file a lawsuit to perfect (foreclose) on the Lien Statement By Lien
Claimant.
